Technology and STEM
The purpose of St. Pius X School is to provide state of the art technology education for our students. In this ever changing digital world, students not only need to understand how to be productive, responsible citizens online, but they also need to have problem solving and critical thinking skills. Therefore, we developed a new STEM class. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Students in kindergarten through fourth grade will attend this class on a weekly basis. Using the Chromebooks and other devices, they will learn basic computer skills, internet safety, coding, the design process used by engineers, and how to use Google sites. In addition to this weekly class, all grades will experience additional STEM elements on Mondays and Fridays. Our STEM teacher will “push-in” to classrooms to work alongside teachers to incorporate STEM into every day lessons. This might include learning centers, small group instruction, and project-based learning activities to extend their learning. We are excited to change the culture of our school to fit the digital age.
